Data Security, Reliability and Architecture

Reliability and security are cornerstones of Lighthouse, and are built into everything we do at Artifact. Protecting your data and making it accessible anytime, from anywhere in the world is our commitment to the Lighthouse community.

We've built multiple layers of reliability and security into both Lighthouse's physical and application infrastructure. Specific details are provided below, and we welcome any questions you might have on these critical issues.

Data Center

For data center infrastructure, Artifact has partnered with Savvis, the leading hosting and collocation provider in North America, according to Gartner. Savvis has over 25 linked data centers spanning 45 countries, hosting mission critical systems for many of the world's leading corporations.

Our facility includes layers of redundant network, UPS, back-up power generators, and air handling and cooling systems. The facility has been designated by the US Government as a National Emergency Facility, giving it preferential treatment with regards to power, security and access in the case of a disaster. The data center includes security guards 24x7x365, physical locks, biometric access control, and video surveillance.

Server Availability

Lighthouse utilizes fully redundant web, application, database and file servers. Our load balancing solution automatically detects application health, availability and performance, ensuring user sessions are only sent to servers able to deliver the content the user seeks. Our servers are monitored 24x7x365 by the Artifact team, and the servers are protected by multiple firewalls, SSL encryption and network IDS systems. Any outages for upgrades or modifications are planned, publicized in advance and are brief, so our user community is aware.

Data Availability

Artifact performs daily, weekly, and monthly tape backups. We maintain both onsite and off-site backup and restore capabilities to ensure that the continuity of your business is not interrupted. Additionally, Lighthouse data can be easily exported to various industry standards, such as Excel, Word, Project, .csv, .xml, and pdf. Any data in a Lighthouse account can be backed up at whatever interval and destination the user chooses.

Application & Data Security

Each request to Lighthouse requires user identity information, and each user has a unique username and password. All communication with Lighthouse is via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology using server authentication and data encryption. Lighthouse supports Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher and Mozilla 1.7 and higher.

Lighthouse is a multi-tenant, role-based application, utilizing Oracle's Virtual Private Database (VPD) technology. Data is partitioned at both the account (your organization) and the individual project level. Users from one account cannot access data in another account. Even within an account, an individual can only see the project data for those projects and roles he or she is assigned. That user cannot see project data for other projects, or any other data within assigned projects unless a role and user privileges are explicitly assigned and authorized by the administrator.

Architecture

Lighthouse is a multi-tenant application built in J2EE, that utilizes Red Hat Linux, Oracle, and JBoss for its technical infrastructure.

Privacy Policy

The Lighthouse privacy policy and licensing agreement ensures from a legal standpoint that your data is not made available to any third parties. It also states that Artifact support personnel may access your data only with your expressed permission.
